Electric mowers are a great way to efficiently mow your lawn without any of the hassles of traditional gas powered mowers. Probably the biggest name in battery powered tools is Black and Decker, and it’s no surprise that they would have several rechargeable electric mowers. But since the demands of a self propelled function works harder on the battery, it’s nice that the Black and Decker has a 36 volt battery to provide the power. Other than that the Black and Decker SPCM1936 is a standard electric mower. It has a 19-inch cutting width and adjustable cutting heights. It also has three options on the discharge so you can leave the clippings behind, mulch them or bag them up. The battery says that it takes 12 hours to charge but you can usually charge it in less or, since the battery comes out, you can have a spare ready to swap out.

The Steele Products brand name is a bit of a new comer to the game, but they offer a full line up of many different power tools (battery operated and otherwise) that makes it seem like they know what they are doing. The Steele Products self-propelled electric lawnmower has gotten 5 stars (albeit from 2 reviewers) and is offered at a very reasonable price. The nice thing about this electric mower is that it has two motors; one for cutting and one for propelling the machine. This dedicated motor gives it more power and doesn’t slow when it gets bogged down in deep grass. The battery is only 24 volts but is more than adequate to handle the job and it cuts for an hour, so adjust your schedule accordingly.

The Epic self propelled mower is one of the best sellers and has gotten both great and spotty reviews. Epic is a fairly new name that is associated with green products, mostly mowers and lawn care. This cordless electric mower has a 24 volt battery which is more or less standard in cordless mowers. It also has high tech motor technology making it more energy efficient meaning you can mow longer. Plus the 21 inch width means slightly fewer passes (it can add up over a larger lawn). There is one issue and it seems that the Epic mowers can be subject to some poor quality control. Many of the reviewers loved the mower and when it works it works great. But a minority of the reviewers experienced technical issues that prevented the mower from doing its job or working, so just beware; you are rolling the dice.

The Greenworks self-propelled electric mower is one of the more popular mowers and is probably the best selling self-propelled version. This mower also has a 24 volt battery and can run for roughly an hour. The 18 inch cutting swath is much less than most other mowers. However, this is the cheapest self propelled electric mower so you can’t complain too much. The Greenworks mower seems to be experiencing similar problems where some people love their mower and it works great, while others get duds and have a legitimate complaint. The good news is if you do get a dud, Amazon will take it back.
